ABERDEEN, S.D. – Tim Mooney, author of the Breakneck Shakespeare series of plays, will perform two one-man shows on Friday, April 11, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Main Theater at Northern State University.
At 1 p.m., Mooney will present Lot o’ Shakespeare, a fast-paced performance featuring monologues from more than a dozen of Shakespeare’s plays. The order of the monologues is determined by a lottery, and the audience participates with their own IAGO (Bingo) cards.
Reviewers describe “Lot o’ Shakespeare” as a fast-paced, comedic performance that brings new energy and clarity to Shakespeare’s work. Mooney’s expressive delivery and engaging format have been praised for casting fresh light on lesser-known scenes and sonnets, making the Bard’s words accessible, entertaining and thought-provoking for modern audiences.
At 7:30 p.m., Mooney will perform Breakneck Hamlet, a dynamic retelling that condenses Shakespeare’s tragedy by cutting a dozen characters and three hours of introspective brooding. The result is a version of Hamlet that’s as thrilling to modern audiences as the original was to Elizabethan theatergoers.
“An explosion of clarity! Tim Mooney’s one-man interpretation made Shakespeare come alive before my eyes. I finally understand Hamlet,” said Bob Weidman.
“Luminous linguistic beauty … theatrically accessible, remarkably clear, and vibrantly alive,” added Robert Hubbard.
Both performances are free and open to the public.
